Show Me April Fools' Day?

I don't know if you've felt it but it's been surreal lately and speaking of surreal I saw this one day when walking to the mall in Tokyo. From a distance it just looked like a dog sitting on a bench. Of course when I noticed it wasn't moving I knew something was up. I was pretty weirded out when I came up close to it. I had to look around to make sure I wasn't on one of those TV shows before quickly crossing the street to go inside.

This is my entry for Show Me Japan.

  1. hahaha! I've seen one like that (except a different breed) tied up in front of some store in Tokyo, too. The one I saw even had a bowl of water in front of it and a dog toy next to it. :-)

  2. Really? So maybe not so unusual. Someone needs to get this dog a toy too!

  3. Sure looks like a dog sitting on a bench until you are right up next to it!!

  4. That's a real, breathing dog there?

Isn't the leash too short, though?

  5. Ah no it's not alive! I was thinking that the leash was too short when I was walking towards it too.

  6. Real ones are better. I bet a lot of pets displaced by the disaster could use a good home :)

  7. Haha, cute!! I've never seen such a realistic fake one before, love the fact that it's tied up "proper-like".
Not as in love with the fact that he's taking up valuable bench space, a rare commodity in Japan! ;)

  8. @Sarah,
Any idea on the point of it being there?

But yeah, it is so realistic.

  9. Wow, that's creepy! There was a stuffed cat in a bookshop window in Jimbocho that I used to pass every day. It took me a few days to realize that it hadn't moved in a while...gah!

  10. @Lina, I'm not sure why it was there. I thought that was a strange place for it! Maybe they put it outside for the same reason they hang the futons outside?

@Ri, yea I agree! Less stuffed dogs and more bench space!!!

@superhappyawesome, it was creepy!!! Seems like this isn't so unusual though.

  11. I guess someone wanted to protect that bench.
