Show Me Mother's Day

Around this time of year a few years back, I was wondering around Meiji Jingu Shrine when I noticed people coming in and out of a forested area. I had time so I went and paid some yen to go see what it was. I didn't pay attention to where I was going I just wanted to explore.

So this is what I saw....

Hundreds of Iris flowers!

I was particularly interested in the people painting them.

It's hard to imagine that only a few minutes walk and it's back to the concrete jungle. I found myself thinking of my mom in this beautiful garden because her favorite flowers are irises!

This is my entry for Show Me Japan.

  2. How lovely. I must make a mental note to visit Meiji Jingu if I ever made it to Japan around this time. ^^

  3. It is lovely. Especially for a person like me - who can't paint (or draw) if her life depended upon it. :-)

  4. Oh, great! You found that garden! It's a nice, kind of hidden area that I found 5 years ago. It's a wonderful garden to walk around.

  5. @ Japan-Australia

Yes I always love opposites like these! The best of both worlds in one place really.

You should but it's always hard to pick and choose where to go especially if you have a limit on time. Meiji Jingu is one of the more popular shrines to visit and it's close to other interesting places like Harajuku but I'm not sure many people know about the garden. It surprised me! Actually I later went back and it wasn't as exciting without the irises in bloom.

I love to paint! I always saw groups of retired and older citizens around Tokyo drawing and painting together. What's even more interesting is that the art was so amazing! I really want to be doing the same thing too when I'm their age.
